Senior Pipe Stress Engineer – CB&I - Houston

Job Title:  Senior Pipe Stress Engineer

Role Synopsis:

The Senior Pipe Stress Engineer will serve as Senior Pipe Stress Engineer on assigned projects which can be large in nature and executed in multiple office environment.  Work includes conceptual studies, cost and planning studies, layouts, design calculations, specification development and supervising vendor packages for equipment, nozzle loads, and anchor location systems.

Key Responsibilities/Accountabilities:

  • Oversees other Pipe Stress Engineers on large multi-office projects or may be assigned to several smaller projects.
  • Manages and develop the most effective piping design overall for the project.
  • Monitors and reports progress and changes (changes in scope, de-staffing plans, etc.) to the Project Team and Department Management per company procedures.
  • Assumes responsibility for cost, schedule, and quantity and budget control for area of responsibility.
  • Ensures effective management of change.
  • Participates in piping engineering budget development and staffing for projects.
  • Is able to effectively understand complex technical challenges and communicate solutions and concepts to other engineers and non-engineers.
  • Mentors junior Piping Engineers and depending on size and complexity of scope of work may be assigned as the Piping Engineering Lead for a project.
  • Ensures effective communications among other engineering disciplines.
  • Performs pipe stress analysis calculations and checking per Department / Project procedures.
  • Responsible for developing Piping Material Requisitions packages & preparing Technical Bid Tabulations for items such as supports (springs), expansion joints, etc.
  • Develops design documentation and deliverables such as piping stress reports, including nozzle load reports, pipe support load calculations, and specialty item datasheets such as spring hangers, expansion joints, snubbers, etc.
  • Conducts document checking and design verification tasks in accordance with department and project procedures.
  • Reviews design specifications, drawings and vendor equipment data from both within the discipline as well as from other disciplines for compliance with project requirements and actively seeks resolution.
  • Assists with training other engineers by providing instruction on new technologies and/or a specialization.
  • Supports the development of new technologies and methods.
  • Maintains and promotes a focus on CB&I’s end product whether engineering, fabrication or construction.
  • Follows practices and procedures as outlined in company quality system, administrative and project execution Manuals.
  • Evaluates and recommends changes in methods and procedures.
  • Visits manufacturer’s plants as required for major specialty item inspection and jobsite as required for special problems related to specifications.
  • Participates in the Quality Improvement Process, including improving communications for the Department or Project.
  • Strives to ensure customer satisfaction, both internally and externally.

Desired/Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering or Engineering degree.
  • 5 years minimum recent experience in Piping Engineering/Stress Analysis work.
  • Total of 8-15+ years of experience
  • Prior experience in an EPC environment.
  • Travel to jobsite may be necessary for client discussions and field verification. PE Certification is a plus. Candidates should be experienced in providing estimates, manpower planning and discipline schedules for large LNG and/or petrochemical projects.
  • Knowledge in Caesar II, MS Excel, Smart Plant Review, Navis Works, Nozzle Pro, FE Pipe & Boss Fluids a plus.
