Senior Piping Designer – Chevron (El Segundo, California)

The Senior Piping Designer, as an essential partner and member of the Design and Drafting Team, plays a key role supporting the refinery's mission to operate optimally, reliably, predictably, and without incident at the lowest sustainable cost.
This position is responsible for providing design support for shutdown / turnaround projects, routine maintenance and capital installations.
Responsibilities for this position may include but are not limited to :
Basic knowledge of AutoCAD, CadWorx 3D plant modeling software, and laser scanning tools / methods. Ability to execute support of shutdown / turnaround projects, routine maintenance, capital installations and initial piping design within operating facilities. This includes field walks to gather dimensional information and generating or updating / revising piping drawings.
Forecasts project completion dates for sharing with Drafting & Design lead, customers and Designs Engineering Team Leaders. Provides quality assurance checking for all mechanical design packages. Ensures completed design packages meet piping specifications, design codes / standards, Safety in Designs (SIDs) and are easily operated and maintained. Ensures adherence to Process Safety Information (PSI) requirements, procedures and standards. Provides technical guidance to internal designers, Designs Engineering (DE) customers and external suppliers. Provides quality solutions for complex piping designs and guidance on Chevron Engineering Standards and piping specifications. Identifies plans and executes training required for continuous improvement in team capability and product quality. Continuously working to improve personal and process safety performance at the refinery and understands that all injuries, environmental issues, or business losses are preventable through proper planning and risk recognition. Stewards Loss Prevention System (LPS) for the piping design team. Submits and supports Loss Prevention tools to improve team safety, product quality and efficiency. Prepares and maintains quality procedures for internal and external design teams. Maintaining and Updating Infrastructure Drawings and Project close-out Procedures. Required Qualifications :
Minimum 15 years of experience in piping design Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering. Basic knowledge of AutoCAD, CadWorx 3D plant modeling software, laser scanning tools / methods. Minimum of 5 years design experience in refining, in developing piping design project scopes, reviewing completed designs and executing field projects will be considered. Minimum 7 years checking of completed designs for a team. Experience collecting as-built information and piping design within operating facilities from concept to completion culminating in all project deliverables. Experience leading complex multi discipline design projects Experience developing and maintaining Process Safety Management (PSM) regulated drawings. Maintaining and Updating Infrastructure Drawings and Project close-out Procedures. Preferred Qualifications :
Basic understanding of estimating tools and cost control. Basic understanding of refinery processes and the interaction between refinery units. Relocation Options :
