Job Description

Position Title: Piping Designer

Position Reports To:

Lead Piping Designer

Primary Objective

  • Responsible for performing plant layout and piping design activities using project approved “in house” 3D CAD modelling and 2D drafting systems.

Specific Accountabilities

  • Produce the various discipline deliverables to the agreed schedule.
  • Apply recognized offshore engineering practices applicable to piping design and topside/plant layout.
  • Apply good interpersonal skills, liaising with members of other disciplines and departments.
  • Apply an awareness and willingness to work as a team member
  • Quality Assurance – work within the provisions and guidelines of the Quality Assurance systems.
  • Safety – Responsible for personal safety and working within the Occupational Health & Safety procedures.

Essential Skills/Experience

  • Trade course in mechanical draughting or equivalent. Diploma in engineering would be an advantage but not a must.
  • Familiar with the prime drivers related to offshore topsides layout design
  • Minimum 10 years proven experience in all aspects of piping/layout design within a design consulting/energy company involving design of substantial facilities for oil and gas companies.
  • A member of a piping design team on at least two major Greenfield projects offshore with a recognized company within the Oil & Gas Industry
  • A minimum of 2 years experience as a user of the 3D CAD modelling and 2D drafting system applicable to piping layout and design.
  • Must be capable of producing piping GA drawings and isometric drawings in AutoCAD.
  • A committed team player able to work on own initiative with the minimum of supervision
  • Exposure to fabrication, construction and installation activities desirable although detailed involvement is not essential.
  • Capable and fit to perform site verification of offshore piping systems in conjunction with the piping design.
  • Capable of generating piping general arrangement drawings based on equipment layout and P&IDs.

Matching Indicators

  • Knowledgeable in the design requirements for piping systems specific to each type of equipment.
  • Capable of relating P&ID’s against piping general arrangement drawings.
  • In depth knowledge in types of piping components used in the design of piping systems.
  • Capable in generating piping isometrics from piping general arrangement drawings and P&IDs.
