The Chevron-operated Wheatstone Project is one of Australia’s largest resource projects. Located at Ashburton North, 12 kilometres west of Onslow in Western Australia, the project will consist of two LNG trains with a combined capacity of 8.9 million tonnes per annum and a domestic gas plant.

Role Overview

Bechtel is seeking a Piping Field Engineer to join the Wheatstone LNG Project working from the project’s piping spool fabrication shop in Abu Dhabi. This position is due to start ASAP.
The Piping Field Engineer is responsible for providing technical support and quality oversight of Subcontractors performing pipe spool /support fabrication work for the project. Work activities include the following:
- Provide leadership for the safety programs on the project.
- Learn and become proficient with site procedures and specifications.
- Provide technical support/clarification to subcontractors performing the piping spool fabrication activities.
- Ability to conduct training, as needed, with subcontractor shop personnel.
- Provide responses to technical inquiries including design piping Isometric/Drawing queries.
- Ability to resolve design issues with Home Office Engineering.
- Provide quality control oversight of subcontractor’s work.
- Monitor actual work performance and verify progress of spool fabrication work activities.
- Interface and coordinate with all subcontractor personnel in the shop.
- Ensure the most current design documentation and Isometric/Drawing revisions are being utilized to complete work activities.
- Assisting in receiving inspections of piping commodities.
- Ensuring piping spool fabrication conforms to design drawings, specifications and standards/Codes.
- Knowledge of welding program/procedures to achieve quality standards is preferred.
- Verifying the proper completion of quality records and documentation.

Basic Qualifications

- An Engineering degree is preferred but may be waived if candidate has a very good knowledge of construction activities as they relate to pipe engineering, design, and fabrication.
- Extensive experience in a field engineering or similar role working in a piping discipline.
- Working knowledge of ASME B31.3, AS Standards, and other applicable codes is preferred.
- Having ability for good communication skills, both verbal and written, crucial to motivating subcontractor personnel and presenting plans in a clear and concise manner.
- Computer literate in word processing, spreadsheet and database applications is desired.
- Capable of liaising and coordinating well with subcontractor (shop) personnel.
- Having sound and reliable technical problem solving and quick decision making ability.
Work includes field inspections and the physical ability to conduct field inspections which require the following activities: extensive walking in and around a construction site, climbing ladders, climbing scaffolding, working on elevated platforms, working on uneven surfaces and working in small or confined spaces. Some lifting may be required. Must have the ability to walk into and out of the project (enter/egress). Must be able to use appropriate standard issued Personal Protection Equipment (PPE) required for each assigned task (i.e. harness, life vest, lift buckets, etc.)
