Job Description:
This level covers
positions involving design and interpretation work requiring advanced,
specialized technical knowledge. Requires a working knowledge of and interfaces
with other disciplines and their documents. Requires innovation and
identification of improvements to procedures and practices.
Preparing layouts,
calculations and designs related to the most complicated elements of projects.
Designing and detailing
complicated new component from previous designs based on engineering
instructions, government and regulatory codes.
Producing drawings in a
complicated field with minimum technical guidance.
Coordinating complicated
work between field and home office. Assisting field forces during construction.
Reporting progress of
work assignments to immediate supervisor.
Functioning as a
participant on a special assignment (i.e. temporary assignment to work for
estimating, proposals, etc. to broaden experience base.
Checking work of, and
assist in training of, less experienced design personnel.
Competant in the
development and use of project delivery items such as engineering services
esitmate, progressing, development of deliverables lists, milestone
requirements,
inter-discipline activities, 2D and/or 3D reviews with clients,
etc.
Technical school
graduate with fifteen or more years of related experience in area of
specialization or an equivalent combination of education training and
experience.
Requires mature computer
skills and a strong working knowledge of CAD 2D & 3D drafting /
modelling programs.
Computer 3D skills
should be one of these systems Intergragh PDS, AutoPlant 3D, orSmartPlant 3D.
Use of Micro-Station and/or AutoCAD will also be a
requirement.
Complete understanding
of the project management requirements in deliverable list development,
engineering service estimates for all phases of projects, progressing,
scheduling, reporting, milestones, etc.on brownfield and greefield projects.

DECISION MAKING (incl
budgetary responsibility):
In accordance with
general policy exercises independent judgment in the planning, organization and
completion of assignments; makes general recommendations on the utilization of
new drafting/design techniques, normally within an area of specialization.
Analyses design elements for potential trends, technical feasibility, client or
contractual requirements.
Works under general
direction of the Business Unit Lead with considerable scope for independent
judgment in planning and organization of work methods. Receives assignments in
terms of objectives and priorities. Work is subject to review and check for
quality, timeliness and technical acceptability. Design team skill set
requirements from experience, software skills, and inter personal abilitites.
Advises on complex
technical problems and checks work of less experienced drafting and design
personnel for accuracy and adequacy.
Mentoring of the less
experienced designer on project team on items such as best design practices,
