Description of Piping Designer


Technip is looking for a Piping Engineer.
Purpose and Scope
The Piping Designer is mainly concerned with the preparation of design deliverables for projects and proposals based on Senior Designers' instructions studies and according to quality standards and client requirements.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Generate piping drawings and associated documents such as required for the Project or proposal;
2. Execute the Piping Studies necessary for a project
3. Develop Final Piping General Arrangement, as per GE-A 353-03, based on layout input from Senior Designers
4. Check 3D Model drafting output
5. Check Pipe Support drafts
6. Produce layout information for 3D model drafting, and check drafted output.
7. Co-ordinate with other Disciplines so seek input and discuss development of the design and for checking on layout drawings, IDC is as per GENERAL WORKING PROCEDURE and Protocol Generate Section 1.3.
8. Ensure that all output conforms with the TPME and Project Quality Management System. Monitor QA Activities within the Division; Guide People to overcome any QA Problem they face; Carry out QA audits; Arrange QA Induction of new persons into the discipline; Update and Keep track Of QA Documents Issued by QA/ Piping Discipline.
9. Contribute towards, maintain and implement both company and client HSE Management System objectives and procedures.
10. Complying with the applicable company procedures for the Engineering Department and the Piping Discipline as they are documented in Department Working Procedure as well as those procedures in the references listed therein.
Operational Duties:
The Designer reports functionally to the Discipline Engineers and Senior Designers and operationally to an assigned Engineer or Lead Engineer depending on project size and scope.
He is responsible, within his individual Specialties, to supervise one or a group of draftsmen, depending on the importance of each contract. He will also be capable of completing and accomplishing certain duties himself, such as:
- Supervising material take off activities
- Co-ordination with other specialist departments
- Reviewing documents and drawings before issuing
As QMR whenever assigned, responsible to ensure that the I'PAD quality system is understood by Discipline members and that the Quality Management System is implemented.
As HSE Representative, whenever assigned, responsible to ensure that the TPME HSE Management system is understood and implemented by Discipline members.

Skills required for Piping Designer


Educational Requirements: BSc in Engineering
Experience Requirement: Total of 6 years experience, Specific Experience Areas Piping Engineering design, offshore/onshore and Design in 3D environment
Computer Skills: Candidate should posses basic knowledge of:Microstation ,MS Word,MS Excel,Smart Sketch
Candidate should have advanced skills in: AutoCAD,PDS (3D)
Languages: English
Personal: In addition, the candidate to this position must demonstrate:
- Good Level of Creativity/Initiative
- Good Communication Skills
- Good Analytical Skills

Preparation for Piping Testing

Preparation for Piping Testing

All joints in a test section shall be accessible during tests and shall not be painted, insulated, backfilled or otherwise covered until satisfactory completion of testing in accordance with this specification.

All vents and other connections which can serve as vents shall be open during filling so that all air is vented prior to applying test pressure to the system.Test vents shall be installed at high points.

Equipment which is not to be subjected to pressure test shall be either disconnected from the piping or blocked off during the test.Safety valve sand control valves shall not be included in site pressure testing.

Temporary spades and blanks installed for testing purposes shall be designed to withstand the test pressure without distortion.Presence of spades shall be clearly visible during testing.

All control valves shall be removed or replaced with temporary spools or

blinded off during pressure testing.

Check valves shall have the flap or piston removed for testing, where pressure can not be located on the upstream side of the valve.The locking device of the flap pivot pin shall be reinstated together with the flap and anew cover gasket shall be installed after completion of the test.

Spring supports shall be restrained or removed and expansion bellows

removed during hydrostatic testing.

Drain points for fluid disposal after testing, shall be provided.

Care shall be taken to avoid overloading any parts of the supporting

structures during hydrostatic testing.

Piping which is spring or counterweight supported shall be blocked up temporarily to a degree sufficient to sustain the weight of the test medium.Holding pins shall not be removed from spring supports until testing is completed and the system is drained.

Pressure in the system shall be introduced gradually until the pressure is the lesser of one-half of the test pressure or 170 kPa gauge.Maintain pressure for 10 minutes and then gradually increase pressure in steps of one tenth of the test pressure until the test pressure is attained.
